Why should you reconsider dairy?

You are what you eat! How many times have we heard that? But, its true! A body cannot run properly if it is being given the wrong fuel. Taking charge of your nutritional content is the easiest way you can personally improve over-all health.

Years of "got milk" ads and celerity endorsements have told us that we should be consuming at least several dairy products on a daily basis, but new studies show that this is probably not the case. In fact, for some individuals, dairy may cause more harm than good. Take that milk- mustache! Here are some reasons to give it up already!

1. Milk is meant for calves!

Over 40 million Americans alone suffer from lactose intolerance. Unfortunately, the number of diagnosed cases have only increased over the past 10 years.  As we age, our bodies no longer produce lactase, an enzyme that breaks down the lactose proteins found in milk, cheese, yogurt and ice cream. Researchers theorize that this is because the body, once fully grown, no longer has a use for milk. After all, the purpose of milk to nourish baby cows. Therefore, when those with an intolerance consume dairy products, the body does not know how to react and attacks itself. Symptoms range from mild cramping to digestive issues and hives.  For those with a full-blown milk allergy, the symptoms are significantly more crippling and can be deadly.

2. You are ingesting toxins!

The cows that provide milk have also been fed artificial hormones to increase lactation. These hormones, the same ones linked to multiple cancers and Alzheimer, then travel through their systems and end up in your cereal bowl. . . Yum!

3. It will clear your skin once and for all!

Dairy is linked to hormonal acne. It`s no surprise that once eliminated from people`s diets, they find that their skin clears up in a month or two. That`s way cheaper than seeing a dermatologist!

4. You might lose weight!

Those who choose to go dairy free are generally leaner than their cheese loving companions. This is due to a high fat and added sugar content.

5. Calcium can be obtained through nutrient dense superfoods!

A cup of low-fat milk contains about 100 calories, 13 grams of sugar, and 306 mg of calcium (about 30% of daily needs). Comparatively, a cup of collard greens has only 20 calories and trumps milk`s calcium content at 336 mg. It also has the added benefit of vitamin K, which helps to clot blood. There are actually a large number of foods out there that provide calcium and other nutrients that dairy lacks.
